Stanningley 22 Woolston Rovers 16

ROVERS were edged out again in their first away game of 2017 as they went down to Stanningley.

The hosts opened the scoring early on through Joe Brier before Tom Kent stepped round the Rovers defence to give the Yorkshiremen a 10-point lead.

Woolston finally got themselves into the game just before the interval when substitute Danny Griffiths found Dan Fearnley crossed in the right corner.

Protecting a six-point advantage, Stanningley moved into a two-score lead when Thomas Sharp touched down, but Rovers fought back again when Connor Muir reacted quickest to a Will Chadwick kick to score between the posts.

Niall Murphy’s try reaffirmed Stanningley’s control of the game, but Sean Conway finished off a slick passing move for the visitors to set up a grandstand finish.

Rovers piled on the pressure late on, but an equalising score eluded them.
