INJURIES and absences meant Giants had just 13 players for this North West Counties Cup group phase tie but showed great spirit against a higher-ranked team.

Jack Faulkes opened the scoring for Latchford but the hosts went in 10-6 down after the break.

Blackbrook kept Latchford at arm’s length despite a second try for Faulkes and one for Matt Gelder, with David Evans adding two goals.

WITH only 12 players making the short trip to Leigh, it was always going to be a tough afternoon for Giants and so it proved.

Giants never gave in and their hard work was rewarded with a try for Matt Guy, while Tom Earps was named the team’s man of the match.

RYLANDS Tiger Sharks under 11s were thankful to tries from Harry Sinclair, Ruben Reed and Josh Brownlee for their 18-12 win over Wigan St Cuthberts, with Charlie Yeomans, Fin Yeomans and Dominic Jevons adding goals.

Rylands White Sharks under nines also recorded a victory by beating Leyland Warriors 7-3.

Riley Crutchley ran in a hat-trick of tries, Ashley Holbrook scored twice while other tries came from Leon Stretton and Oliver Heydon.

Meanwhile, Rylands Sharks under eights fell short away to West Bank Bears despite tries from McKenzie Morris, Ryan Collins, Logan O’Reilly, Jasper Porter and Logan Cherrett.
