WOOLSTON Rovers return to action on Sunday when they get their play-off campaign under way by welcoming Eastmoor Dragons to Monk Sports Club, kick off 2.30pm.

John Fieldhouse’s side have not played in the league since losing a title-decider to neighbours Crosfields a month ago.

However they now have an opportunity to join Soap in the National Conference League Division Two next season through a four-team play-off system.

They finished third in the final standings, one point behind second-placed Drighlington, and Fieldhouse is confident his side can see the job through.

“We have a fully-fit squad to choose from so there will be no excuses,” he said.

“The boys have trained hard over the past couple of weeks and can’t wait to get out on the field.

“We have produced some top quality showings throughout the year and now is the time for us put on another eye-catching display that will enable us to continue our journey.”

Rovers suffered disappointment in the final of the Stuart Middleton Foundation Warrington Cup two weeks ago as they were beaten by Rylands Sharks in an ill-tempered game at The Halliwell Jones Stadium that saw five players shown red cards.

They now face an Eastmoor side that arrive for the post-season showdown in fine form having won four of their past five games.

That allowed them to leapfrog Rylands in the table, meaning the Sharks must travel to Drighlington for their semi final.

Rovers won both their regular season meetings with the Dragons, but Fieldhouse is taking nothing for granted.

“This game promises to be an absolute cracker between two hard-working sides who have a lot of quality in their ranks,” he said.

“Although we managed to win both league games we know that they have some potential match winners in their side.

“We will need to be on our game from the first whistle until the last if we are to reach the Play-Off Final.”

Meanwhile, Woolston Rovers A also return to action this weekend when they make a trip to take on Chester Gladiators on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.

Danny Forster’s side have endured a difficult campaign, largely due to player unavailability, but will be looking to finish the season on a high.

The Chester game is followed by trips to Wigan St Judes A and Fitton Hill.

LATCHFORD Albion played host to a successful North West Men’s League Finals day on Saturday, when more than 700 people flocked to Victoria Park Stadium to see a triple-header.

No Warrington sides were involved, with victories going to Orrell St James A, Leigh Miners Rangers A and Thatto Heath Crusaders A.

Albion return to action on Saturday when they face Cumbrian outfit Hindpool Tigers at the same venue, kick off 2.30pm.
