Rylands Sharks 62 Woolston Rovers 12
RYLANDS inflicted on Rovers their heaviest defeat of the season to claim bragging rights in front of a bumper crowd.
They established an early lead when Gavin Conroy punished feeble defending, and added to their advantage when Jamie Clarke touched down on the right.
Stand-off Jack Lewis converted.
Nick Braide then added a third try for Sharks, again converted by Lewis, to make it 16-0.
Woolston hit back with a try for second-rower Christian Taylor, and half-back Will Chadwick added the extras.
The rest of the first half was closely-fought, with both sides failing to take an opportunity to add to their scores.
However the second period proved anything but close; Rylands ran in eight tries, and Troy Brophy started the ball rolling with a score converted by Lewis.
A try shortly afterwards for Woolston centre Justin Becker, improved by Chadwick, proved a false dawn.
Lewis converted his own try to increase the hosts’ advantage to prompt a purple patch that yielded half-a-dozen scores in the space of little more than a quarter of an hour.
Gavin Conroy crossed a second time, followed by a try from Morley, before further efforts from Adam Thompson and Aaron Holliday added to Rovers’ woes - all converted by Lewis.
With three minutes left, Clarke doubled his personal tally for the contest.
Substitute Dave Walker wrapped up proceedings with a try in the closing seconds, converted by in-form Lewis.
