Latchford Albion 21 Golborne Parkside 20

A LATE Connor Muir drop-goal ensured Albion continued their unbeaten start to the season at the Victoria Park Arena on Saturday.

Latchford’s Lewis Wightman opened the scoring in a tight game as he scored out wide from Adam Wood’s clever grubber kick.

Golborne hit back to edge ahead with a converted try before Danny Brown raced over from 40 metres out, with Wightman’s conversion swinging the momentum back to the hosts at 10-6.

However, two converted scores gave the visitors an 18-10 lead at the break as they exploited a series of errors in the Albion ranks.

Cameron Davies showed great strength to hold off two defenders and squeeze over in the corner to reduce the deficit after the break before Ryan Hickman finished off Brown’s break to edge them ahead.

With ten minutes remaining, the visitors brought the game level at 20-20 with a penalty as Albion were penalised for offside.

Both sides attempted drop goals in a tense finale to the game, but Muir kept his nerve to slot over the winning score and ensure Albion stayed level with Orrell St James at the top of the North West Men’s League Division One.

They make the long trip north to Cumbrian to face Hindpool next week.
