WOOLSTON Rovers head coach John Fieldhouse says his team’s performance needs to improve in Saturday’s home game with Waterhead Warriors.

The Oldham-based side travel to Monk Sports Club to face a rampant Rovers side looking for their sixth consecutive victory after a late Billy Maunder try snatched a 26-24 win over Eastmoor Dragons last time out.

“We need to start concentrating for the full eighty minutes because we will then become very hard to beat,” Fieldhouse said.

“We are looking forward to playing at home again; with a bit of luck we should be able to welcome back some of our missing players and that will give the squad a boost.

“We want to put in a fitting performance this week that will keep us up towards the top of the league table.

“If we can get the win then that will be the best run we have had for several years.”

“It should be an exciting game so I urge all our fans to come along and enjoy the entertainment that we are providing.”

Rovers trailed Eastmoor by four points with just five minutes left last time out until Maunder’s late intervention, meaning they still haven’t lost since the opening game of the season.

Despite the win, Fieldhouse says his side need to focus for the full game if they want to maintain their form.

“We made hard work of getting the win but fortunately we managed to snatch it at the end,” he said.

“We were in total control for fifty minutes but then fell asleep and allowed Eastmoor to gain control, it has been a common theme over the past month or so where we have built up healthy leads but then allowed our opponents back into games.

“We need to start concentrating for the full eighty minutes because we will then become very hard to beat.

“Having said all that I thought the way we played for that opening fifty minutes was exceptional and we really did score some terrific tries.”
