Woolston Rovers 38 Dewsbury Moor Maroons 16

WOOLSTON Rovers made it four wins on the spin in the National Conference League Division Three with an excellent win over Dewsbury Moor Maroons.

John Fieldhouse’s side move up to second in the table after a scintillating first-half display saw them run in four tries before the break.

Fieldhouse said a good week’s training had shown out on the field.

“I was really happy with our defensive structures and composure in attack,” he said.

“We had an excellent weeks training at that has shown on the field even though we were once again missing several regulars.”

They started on seven minutes when Wil Maudsley crossed under the sticks, before Billy Maunder broke the line and passed for Ryan Brown to go over out wide.

Chris Twigg converted both of those tries and he crossed for a six-pointer of his own after he was on the end of Justin Becker’s 40-metre break.

Substitute Lewis Hoarty then crossed in the corner after Brown and Maunder combined again, with Twigg’s conversion making it 22-0 at the interval.

Rovers picked up their momentum in the second half and prop Chris Mellor crashed over on the right to extend the lead before the Yorkshiremen got themselves on the board through Cameron Bruce.

Dan Fearnley then pushed his way over to extend Rovers’ lead again, but Dewsbury regained the ball from the restart and James Eatherley went over for another try.

Becker completed Rovers’ scoring but another consolation try for Dewsbury with the last play of the game gave the scoreline more respectability.
