Crosfields 36 Oldham St Annes 16

TABLE-TOPPING Crosfields continued their excellent start to the National Conference League Division Three season with a comfortable-looking home win over Oldham St Annes.

The sides had drawn on the opening day of the season and it was the visitors who made the better start at Hood Lane, but Soap roared back in the second half to make the margin of victory look more convincing.

The win means they maintain their unbeaten start to the season, with three wins and a draw from their opening four games.

Oldham made the more accomplished start and, after Keiron Thomas had a try ruled out for the hosts, they took the lead when an up-and-under caused havoc in the Crosfields defence and the visitors kept the ball alive to score.

Crosfields responded and got themselves going as Matthew Barber crashed over underneath the posts, with Jack Reid adding the conversion.

However, Oldham grabbed the lead again as quick hands put them over in the right corner, but Ash Cornelia dummied through to score under the posts to edge Soap ahead at the break.

Billy Sheen opened the scoring for Crosfields in the second half, before Oldham hit back again as repeat sets led to them crossing for what was to be their final score of the match.

The hosts went through the gears and cantered away in the closing stages, with Joe Moore barging over for his third try in three games before Joe Clarke spotted Nathan Taylor out wide for a smart score.

John Pickersgill crashed over for the final try as Crosfields celebrated another win and they will seek to extend their run this weekend as they travel to the winless Waterhead Warriors.
