WOOLSTON Rovers will once again face The RAF in The Royal British Legion Challenge Trophy.

The game takes place on Saturday, October 31, kick off 2pm at Monks Sports Club, Hillock Lane, Woolston, Warrington, WA1 4NF.

All proceeds from the day will go towards the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

The event took place for the first time last year and was a resounding success and we are hopeful that the day this year will be even better.

It attracted a large crowd 12 months ago who were treated to an entertaining game between two committed sides, with many players having travelled the length and breadth of the country to be involved.

The day will also feature curtain raisers between several of the Rovers sides and they will kick off from 12.30pm.

Each of the club’s junior sides will have the opportunity to have a stall at the game that will enable them to raise funds for their team as well as making a donation to the Poppy Appeal.

The Warrington Lions will also once again be offering their very generous support.

Rovers PRO Dave Whalley said: “When we were approached by the RAF to take part in this game last year we had no hesitation in saying yes.

“We are all fully aware of what sacrifices our very brave servicemen and servicewomen have made, and continue to make, and we were honoured to be involved in what was a great occasion.

“We sat down after the game last year and decided that we would make it an annual event and we hope that as many people as possible will come along and support the day.

“We are very fortunate in this country to have fantastic armed services that are the envy of the whole world so we will do anything possible on the day to raise funds.

“This year we are delighted that Santander have come on board to support us on the day and help to increase the profile of the event; to have a banking giant, that is one of the biggest companies in the world aiding us is fantastic and we are very grateful to them.”

Raffle prizes or auction items that people would like to donate to help with the fundraising would be very much appreciated by all involved.

If you would like to be involved on the day, either by having your own stall or by volunteering your help then please contact Dave Whalley on 07809 647014 or by e-mail at whalley_dave@hotmail.com and we will be very grateful to take you up on our offer.
