Leyland Warriors 52 Woolston Rovers A 12

WOOLSTON Rovers A finished their North West Men's League Division Two campaign with a defeat at Leyland Warriors on Saturday afternoon.

Leyland Warriors opened the scoring after fourteen minutes when prop forward Danny McGrath collected a pass from scrum half Danny Horridge to score on the right.

Loose forward Will Roper converted and then four minutes later Roper went over wide on the left for what proved to be the last scoring of the half as the home side led 10-0.

Rovers responded three minutes after half time when a long ball from scrum half Olly Hands found centre Jimmy Evans who managed to ground the ball wide out on the left and then four minutes later a brilliant pin-point kick to the corner was picked up superbly by winger Liam Sullivan who scorched over in the right corner to narrow the deficit to just two points.

The turning point in the game came moments later when Rovers loose forward Tom McIntosh was sin-binned for holding down and from the resulting penalty McGrath went over at the left of the posts.

Roper converted and almost immediately Leyland were over again when Horridge went from dummy half and raced thirty metres to score at the side of the posts.

Roper added the conversion.

Two quick tries, either side of the hour mark, moved Leyland further ahead; the first came from second row Liam Deans, goaled by Roper and the second from winger Josh Bond who raced fifty metres to score in the left corner.

Stand-off Stuart McLean landed the touchline conversion.

Rovers scored a fine consolation try when second row Chris Brown side-stepped round the Leyland defence superbly and raced thirty metres to score on the right but then the Warriors responded with a try from hooker Declan Roberts that McLean converted.

Further tries from second row Liam Betnay and McLean, both converted by McLean rounded off a 52-12 victory for Leyland.

Best for Rovers were loose forward Tom McIntosh, second row Chris Brown, full back Dominic Ball and substitute Richard Potts.
