CROSFIELDS slipped out of the play-offs spots after a 22-12 defeat at Dewsbury Moor Maroons.

They had a great start when Ben Steels and Joe Clarke combined with John Whittaker, whose looping pass found Nathan Taylor to dive in at the corner. Taylor converted.

Dewsbury hit back and gained the upper hand in the final few minutes of the first half, scoring two tries, one of which was converted.

But Crosfields started the second period brilliantly.

A great first set from the kick off put them a good position and an up and under was fumbled by the defence. Jo Moore’s barnstorming run created space for Whittaker, who stepped the full-back to score. Taylor converted and Crosfields were back in contention at 16-12.

Both sides worked hard throughout and Crosfields looked to have the edge at times, but were unable to make that into points.

As the game drifted on Crosfields tried some enterprising plays, but were not able to make the breakthrough.

An innocuous kick by Dewsbury with five minutes to go was fumbled over the line, and the hosts were quickest to react for a try.

The conversion made the final score 22-12.

A good effort from two evenly-matched teams.

Hayden James took the Crosfields’ man of the match, with Moore having a tremendous game.

Crosfields are at home to Thornhill Trojans on Saturday, with a 2.30pm kick off.

Crosfields Alliance are at home to Little Hulton Reds, with a 2.30pm kick off.
