Woolston Rovers A 20 Widnes Tigers 54
ROVERS A suffered a heavy loss to a strong Widnes Tigers side in NWML Division Two at Monks Sports Cub on Saturday.
The first half belonged completely to the visitors as they ran in six unanswered tries and with four of them being converted the Tigers built up a 32-0 half time advantage.
Two more early tries, one of which was converted saw the Tigers move 42-0 ahead but then a fine try from loose forward Tom McIntosh got Rovers on the scoreboard before another converted try from the Widnes side.
Rovers then had their best spell of the game and prop forward Mike Ward went over for a try that substitute Jason Rutter converted and then substitute Richard Potts forced his way over for a fine try that Rutter also added the goal points to.
A further try and conversion from the Tigers saw them pass the half century mark but it was Rovers who had the final say when winger Christian Taylor put second row Olly Parr over in the corner to make the final score 54-20 to the Tigers.
Best for Rovers were Danny Forster, Olly Parr, Tom McIntosh and Richard Potts.
Rovers A: Shane Duffy; Matt Dalton, James Evans, Ian Ward, Christian Taylor; Dominic Ball, Liam Sullivan; Mike Ward, Danny Forster, Max Ainsworth, Olly Parr, Jake Bennicke, Tom McIntosh. Subs: Jason Rutter, Tom Fagan, John Spreadbury, Richard Potts.
