WOOLSTON Rovers A reached the Stuart Middleton Foundation Warrington Alliance Cup final in a game against Crosfields A that saw four players dismissed, including former Warrington Wolves man Mark Forster.

Rovers were 28-22 winners in the semi final at Monks Sports Club.

The game was played at a great pace and was in the balance all the way until the final whistle as both sides gave their all in a full blooded affair but it was the extra composure of the Rovers side that sees them face Latchford Albion A in the final.

Rovers opened the scoring in the third minute when second row Lewis Hoarty put winger Liam Sullivan over in the right corner and then five minutes later Crosfields had hooker Danny Lee sent off for a kick to the head.

But shortly afterwards they scored when second row Tom Brown broke through the Rovers’ line to score at the side of the posts.

Scrum half Ryan Connelly added the conversion to put his side ahead.

Rovers’ response was swift as a penalty put them close to the Crosfields’ line and scrum half Will Chadwick slipped a lovely ball to Hoarty who scored wide out on the right.

Chadwick converted but then Rovers had prop forward Danny Griffiths sin-binned for a high tackle and it enabled the Soap to move deep into Rovers’ half and loose forward Ben Kenwright scored at the side of the posts.

Connelly added the conversion.

Two minutes before the break Rovers had centre Ian Ward sin-binned for a high tackle and Connelly landed the subsequent penalty to give the Soap a narrow 14-10 half time advantage.

Rovers were level a minute into the second half when a long kick downfield from deep inside his own half by Chadwick saw Sullivan outpace the Crosfields full back to win the race to pounce on the ball and score in the right corner.

Four minutes later hooker Harry Files forced his way over from close range to score at the side of the posts.

Chadwick added the conversion.

Rovers then had centre Mark Forster dismissed for a high tackle but four minutes afterwards they moved further ahead when Chadwick stepped back inside and spotted a gap to go over on the left for a try that he converted himself.

Crosfields hit back when a kick to the corner by Connelly saw winger Kieran Thomas collect and score wide out on the right.

Crosfields scored again when substitute Jack Williams touched down in the left corner to narrow the gap to just four points, but in the final minute Crosfields’ centre Shaun Spencer and Rovers’ substitute Sam Wood were sent off for fighting and Chadwick landed the resulting penalty to give Rovers a deserved 28-22 victory.

Man of the match was Rovers’ scrum half Will Chadwick.

He was well supported by Liam Sullivan, Lewis Hoarty, Danny Garcia O’Brien and Ian Ward.

For Crosfields Ryan Connolly, Tom Brown and Shaun Thomas were their best.
