Dewsbury Moor Maroons 12 Woolston Rovers 44

WOOLSTON Rovers returned to Kingstone Press National Conference League Division Three action after a three-week break on Saturday and came away from Dewsbury Moor with a fine victory after a stunning second-half performance.

Rovers, who had won their last three league games in convincing style, started slowly but a brilliant showing after the break saw them completely outclass their hosts and run out very convincing winners to remain in fourth place in the league table.

Dewsbury Moor opened the scoring after three minutes when they were awarded a penalty and the ball reached prop forward Danny Wardman who scored on the right.

Winger Jacob Flathers converted and four minutes later centre James Eatherley went over when a short ball saw him crash over from close range.

Rovers responded on 17 minutes when they pounced on a loose ball and scrum half Billy Maunder found second row Anthony Clayton who raced over.

Full back Glyn Roberts converted and then just after the half hour mark a great run by centre Justin Becher split the Dewsbury defence and that created room for second row Sean Conway to score in the right corner and level the scores.

Right on half time Rovers had Maunder sin-binned for wasting time and Flathers landed the resulting penalty to give his side a slender 12-10 interval advantage.

Eight minutes into the second half a fine ball from Roberts found stand-off Ryan Brown and he managed to slip the ball out to winger Christian Taylor and he went over to the left of the posts.

Roberts converted and then five minutes later a slick pass from Maunder found Taylor who scored in the left corner.

Roberts goaled superbly from the touchline.

Just after the hour mark Rovers moved further clear when Roberts broke clear and his clever ball sent Maunder away to score.

Roberts converted and then a fine run from second row Tom Woodward put his side deep into the Maroons’ half and he found R Brown who twisted in the tackle to score at the left of the posts.

Roberts added the conversion.

Rovers continued to dominate and a fine drive by substitute Jake Upton punched a hole in the Dewsbury line and he found Maunder who raced clear to score under the posts.

Roberts converted and then a minute from time a great run by R Brown saw him weave in and out of the Dewsbury defence before passing out to Taylor who raced clear to score in the left corner and complete a fine hat trick and make the final score 44-12 to a rampant Rovers’ side.

Man-of-the-match was awarded to Rovers’ full back Glyn Roberts.

He was very well supported by centre Justin Becher, winger Christian Taylor, scrum half Billy Maunder, stand-off Ryan Brown and hooker Harry Files.
