Rylands Sharks 22 Heysham Atoms 36

RYLANDS failed to capitalise on an outstanding first 20 minutes in their defeat to Heysham, allowing the visitors to run out eventual winners in a close contest played at Shark Park.

Sharks dominated the early encounters and were 14 points up after the first quarter with tries from Chris Dean, Jamie Clarke, and Matty Taylor with Nick Owen adding one conversion.

The visitors hit back with a try for Curtis Lacey, converted by Billy Livingstone, but a penalty goal from Jack Lewis increased Rylands' lead.

On the stroke of half time Heysham cut the deficit with a try for Dan Helme with Livingstone adding the extras.

The second period saw the Atoms race into a 20-point lead with tries for Livingstone, two, Matty Short and Mike Forrest, with Livingstone adding four conversions.

A late flurry from the hosts ended with a try for Billy Middlemore, converted by Lewis, but it came too late for the Sharks to mount any real comeback.

Best for Rylands were Jamie Clarke, Chris Meacock, Rob Campbell and Chris Dean while Jack Lawton shone for Heysham.
