Woolston Rovers A 28 Bury Broncos 42
WOOLSTON Rovers A went out of this season's North West Men's League Trophy at the first round stage.
Bury took control with 26 unanswered points in a dominant start to the second half, after the first period ended 16-16.
Although Woolston, who had 50-year-old former Warrington Wolves winger Mark Forster at prop, finished strongly with converted tries from James Rosson and Mike Ward in the final eight minutes, the game was gone by then.
Rovers opened the try scoring through hooker Danny Forster, with Peter Leonard converting, but Bury fired an early warning shot as they hit back with two of their own.
Centres Will Chadwick and Matt Robinson scored to edge Woolston in front again.
Shortly before half time another response saw Bury pull level, with Woolston loose-forward Mike Ward sent to the sin-bin for disputing the referee’s decision to award the score.
While down to 12 men at the start of the second period, Woolston conceded twice in four minutes and Broncos continued to dominate until late on.
