LATCHFORD’S pre-season continued with a good victory over one of their North West Men’s League rivals.

Try scorers were Connor Muir, three, Lewis Wightman, two, Jamie Birchall, Ryan Hickman, Jimmy Evans and Dave McGuinness.

Goals were added by Lewis Wightman, three, and Sam Dobson, two.

Coach Lee Smith was pleased with the performance and added: “We stuck to the game plan against a big and experienced Bamber side.

“With such a young team it’s a credit to the club that seven of our try scorers were from last year’s under 18s.”

Woolston Rovers 12 Wigan St Patricks 12

WOOLSTON Rovers and Wigan St Patricks played out an entertaining draw in a pre-season friendly at Monks Sports Club on Saturday.

Rovers dominated the first half against opponents from three divisions higher in the National Conference League pyramid but the visitors had the better of the second half.

Woolston opened the scoring after eight minutes when a fine break by Chris Mellor stretched the St Pats defence, leading to Sean Conway firing out a long pass for James Rosson to step round his marker and cross wide out.

Spanish international full back Danny Garcia O’Brien converted and then 16 minutes later a short ball from scrum half Ryan Cosgrove found substitute Dave Kelly who forced his way over. O’Brien again converted.

St Patricks levelled matters with two converted tries in the second period and that is the way it stayed despite the efforts of both sides.
