Woolston Rovers 32 Peterlee Pumas 16

WOOLSTON clung on with 12 men in the last 10 minutes to claim a hard-fought victory over Peterlee Pumas in Kingstone Press National Conference League Division three on Saturday.

Pumas opened the scoring in the 11th minute but Rovers replied straight away through John Welch who crashed over between the posts from close range.

Rovers looked to be making light work of the clash when two more tries came in quick succession through Chris Mellor and Christian Taylor, who both went over in the left corner.

Peterlee got themselves back into the game just before half time when hooker Jack Adamson went over to reduce the deficit to 14-10 at the break.

Woolston got off to the perfect start in the second half when Sean Conway shot through a gap in the Peterlee defence to score.

Another Peterlee try increased the pressure once more before Rovers centre Tom Keevil raced 50 metres, rounding the full back with a clever dummy, to score on the left.

Rovers played the final 10 minutes with 12 men after Welch was sin-binned for punching but a Mellor try helped ensure the win.
