Wigan St Cuthberts 16 Crosfields 46

CROSFIELDS maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a dominant display away in Wigan.

Crosfields looked sharp in the opening exchanges, but did not take advantage on five minutes when Jo Moore thought the deadball line was the try line and ran out of play.

Soap continued to apply the pressure and got the breakthrough on eight minutes when a good move out wide enabled Nathan Hamilton to go in at the corner to lead 4-0.

This was quickly followed up by a Chris Burgess try after a Jack Reid kick, with Reid adding the conversion.

Cuthberts hit back with a try of their own on 20 minutes after a break down the middle with the scores at 4-10.

On 30 minutes, Soap opened the flood gates and added four tries before the half time break through Ian Boden, Hamilton, Moore and Ash Cornelia, with Reid adding two more conversions leaving the half time score 4-30 and Soap totally in control.

The second half started tightly as Cutherberts now had the slope and the wind, but Soap held them out well.

Burgess grabbed his second through another Reid kick who then converted for a 4-36 scoreline.

Cuthberts grabbed another breakaway try before Jon Rigby scored his first of the season.

Cornelia grabbed his second after a Reid kick.

Cuthberts grabbed a third try and last of the game on 76 minutes for 16-44 scoreline.

The Wigan outfit's frustrations we coming through, and in the last minute of the game a high tackle caused a bit of a melee which resulted in red card for the home team and a yellow for Reid.

Cornelia kicked the resulting penalty for a final score of 16-46.

Lewis Bani was named man-of-the-match by the home team, with Jack Reid picking up the players’ award.

Another great team performance.

No game for the team next week, next action is when Soap host Eastmoor Dragons on March 29, 2.30pm kick off.
