Warrington’s weekend to forget

WARRINGTON men’s hockey suffered a disappointing 4-0 loss to University of Liverpool’s seconds.

The men competed well and went close to opening the scoring in the first half, but the first goal proved crucial as Liverpool scored three before the break.

Warrington fared better with new players in the second half, Tom Lloyd and Jamie Donald playing well, but a goal on the final whistle made it a day to forget.

* WARRINGTON women’s first team were pegged back to a disappointing 2-2 draw with Wilmslow, despite going 2-0 up.

Warrington took the lead through Louise Sullivan’s slick finish to a short corner routine and Emma Bartlett doubled the lead after a great pass from Steph Lace.

Player-of-the-match Tracy Jackson made some heroic saves to keep Warrington ahead but the pressure became too much to handle in the last 10 minutes.

The second team put in a spirited performance against Neston but lost 3-2 despite a brace from Steph Rawlins. Abi Hynes was voted player of the match and Holly McCurrie, who has been nominated for Cheshire trials, was in fine form.
