Tranter caps a busy day by beating former chart star
8:00am Friday 12th October 2012 in Sport
STUART Tranter finished ahead of Jamiroquai lead singer Jay Kay in the weekend’s Classic Sports Car Club autumn meeting at Oulton Park.
The Warrington driver piloted a two-litre Ford Sierra Cosworth for the first time through the Sports Car V Saloon Challenge, while the former chart topper entered in his Porsche.
In the day’s opening sprint, Tranter was caught in a first lap tangle, but steered his way to sixth overall.
Tranter was busy, taking to the track in his regular vehicle, which is a two-litre Rover 220 turbo in the Future Classics Championship.
Damp conditions permitted him to climb to fourth in the race’s early stages, but as the track’s surface dried more powerful cars started to bridge the gap and he eventually finished eighth.
Mike Nash, from Stretton, steered his Peugeot 106 in the Tin Tops series, climbing 10 places from his starting position to finish 13th overall.
