Juniors collect road relay medals

WARRINGTON Athletics Club runners returned home from the North of England Road Relays at Leigh Sports Village with a collection of medals across the five teams sent to compete.

There was a golden reward for the under 15 girls team of Sarah McGrail, Harriet Knowles-Jones and Lizzie Smith, who all recorded times in the top ten fastest laps of the day to finish first in a time of 32mins 37seconds.

The under 15 girls B team finished 11th with Georgia Aston-Massey, Olivia Bush and Vicky Ramsbottom completing the race in 35mins 21secs.

The C team of Amy Moran, Louise Watterson and Laura Nicholson completed the course in 37mins 33secs.

Silver medals followed for two of the boys’ teams, with the under 13 boys trio of Luke Gamble, Daniel Fox and Jack Stubbings being narrowly beaten after a sprint finish to take the silver medal with a time of 32mins 46secs.

Their feat was repeated by the under 15 boys’ team, for whom Daniel Evans, Leighton Sharman and Robert Dykes were again pipped late by a sprint finish to grab a silver medal in 30mins 17secs.

The under 13 girls’ team of Melissa Boyer, Lauren Goddard and Lauren Ferris set some of the fastest individual times for the day but could not turn that into a medal, finishing sixth with a time of 35mins 58secs.

The under 17 boys’ team of Cameron Field, Matt Hulse and Liam Burthem, who returned from a long injury lay-off to complete the final leg, crossed the finish line in fifth with a time of 32mins 23secs.

The B team of Chris Fance, James Jackson and David Gerrard ran a total time of 39mins 15secs to finish in 29th place.
