Gemma Prescott wins Paralympic bronze in the Club throw
12:45pm Monday 3rd September 2012 in Sport
GEMMA Prescott has become the first Warrington-based Paralympian to pick up a London 2012 medal, winning a bronze in the women’s F31/32/51 Club at the Olympic Stadium.
It was a first Paralympic medal for Prescott, who was third after three throws and therefore qualified for a further three throws and a chance to battle it out for the medals.
She couldn’t improve on her third round effort of 20.50 metres, but that was good enough to give her bronze.
“It was an amazing experience," said the 28-year-old, who has now improved on her seventh and eighth-place finishes in Beijing in 2008.
"I knew I had to go out there and personal best to win a medal and I’m delighted.
"I’m actually really struggling for words.
“Having three British girls in that event just made the crowd even louder.
"I’ve never been in an event like that before with such support.”
