Knowles-Jones grabs record in Trafford

HARRIET Knowles-Jones smashed Warrington Athletics Club’s under 15s 1,500m record at the Trafford Grand Prix in Stretford.

Knowles-Jones reduced the club’s under 15s record, set in 1976, by seven seconds to finish ninth in a mixed event in 4mins 36.82secs.

In the British Milers Club events, Sam Dykes finished second in the under 20s A 800m with a time of 1min 50.46secs, while Luke Johnston came close to setting a personal best when finishing the B 1,500m in 14th in 4mins 1.36secs.

Matt Wigelsworth did manage to achieve a personal best in the under 17s Grand Prix 800m, going under two minutes for the first time to take fifth in 1min 58.83secs.

There was victory for under 17s runner Jemma Eyre, who finished her 800m in 2mins 17.48secs.

In the 1,500m races, under 17s athlete Matt Hulse picked up a personal best to finish fourth in 4mins 3.19secs, while teammate Cameron Field improved his season start time by 18 seconds to come second in 4mins 5.62 secs.

The final 1,500m runner was under 15 Sarah McGrail, who finished sixth in 5mins 3.47 secs.

The older athletes also contributed to the good performances, with under 20s runner Tom Jervis finishing the A 3,000m in 8mins 43.11secs, with over 40s teammate Paul Dodsworth finishing 22nd in the B race in 10mins 14.66secs.

Mark Pendlebury celebrated a double victory by winning the senior men’s shot with 12.34m and the discus with 38.78m.
