ELITE rowers Richard Egington and Olivia Whitlam are expected to be the next Warrington athletes to gain places at London 2012.

Slalom canoeist Johny Akinyemi is Warrington’s only confirmed participant in the London Olympics so far, with his selection coming for Nigeria, but Egington and Whitlam’s places in respective Team GB eight-crew boats should be rubber stamped on Wednesday.

Both competed in Beijing four years ago, with Egington winning a silver medal, and the pair have already tasted success in World Cup races this season.

Egington and the men’s eight achieved silver in the Lucerne World Cup, Switzerland, on Sunday.
