Jack smashes record

JACK Evans smashed his personal best and a Warrington Athletics Club record that had stood for more than 35 years in winning the under 13 boys’ 800m at the Cheshire and Greater Manchester Track and Field Championships at Victoria Park.
Evans’ gold was one of 24 Cheshire and two Manchester titles scooped by Warrington Athletics Club athletes at the event, where the under 15 girls 800m team of Harriet Knowles-Jones, Lizzie Smith and Louise Watterson completed a one, two, three in the medal standings.
Daniel Evans made it a family double in the under 15 boys' 800m, with a personal best to take gold ahead of teammates Robert Dykes, who knocked an impressive eight seconds off his personal best, and Leighton Sharman.
Cameron Field won the under 17s men’s 1500m and there was also a one-two for the under 20s men’s 1500m team of Luke Johnston and Tom Jervis.
There were first day wins for Fisayo Williamson-Taylor, under 13s boys’ 200m; Mollie Crewe, under 17s girls’ 100m; Melissa Boyer, under 13s girls’ 600m; Liam Renton, under 20s men’s 3000m; Jemma Eyre, under 17s girls’ 300m; Cameron Meakin, under 15s boys’ triple jump; Sally Dempster, under 17s girls’ hammer, and a triple from multi-eventer Alex Wort, under 20s men’s 110m hurdles, pole vault and discus.
Mark Pendlebury also won a Manchester title in the senior men’s discus.
On day two Fisayo Williamson-Taylor made it a double with the under 13s boys’ 100m, as did Cameron Field, under 17s boys’ 800m; Jemma Eyre, under 17s girls’ 800m; Melissa Boyer, under 13s girls’ 1200m; Harriet Knowles-Jones, under 15s girls’ 1500m; Daniel Evans, under 15s boys’ 1500m and Mark Pendlebury, senior men’s Greater Manchester shot title.
Luke Gamble won the under 13s boys’ 1500m; Matt Hulse, under 17s boys’ 1500m steeplechase and Alex Wort, who took a fourth title in the under 20s men’s javelin.
