Grappers’ young players impress

FIVE Grappenhall Chess Club players were in the Cheshire and North Wales team that finished sixth in the English Primary Schools Association Championships final.

Carmel Barwick, Jack Nolan, Seth Collinson, David Rosof-Williams and Advait Chorgade helped to ensure Cheshire finished ahead of all the other northern counties Jack was particularly impressive, scoring 2½ out of a possible 3 on board 5.

Grappenhall’s Isaac Barwick and Kieran Rosof-Williams also made appearances in the national finals with the Cheshire and North Wales under nines team that finished 17th.

The county under 18s team that came runners-up in the triangular Northern Counties event featured Grappenhall’s Ben Scattergood, Johann Power, Alex Kitshoff, Isaac Hutt and Carmel Barwick, who all scored valuable points on the day.
