THOMAS Kelly has joined a small band of Warrington judo players to have gained a black belt at the age of 16.
The Bridgewater High School pupil from Stockton Heath started out as a raw recruit with Warrington Samurai Judo Club at the age of 11.
John Lawrenson, instructor at the Wellfield Street club, said: “It’s quite an achievement to get this at the age of 16.
“He’s a good lad and a good member. He gets involved and helps out where he can.
“Gaining his black belt means he can now enter into serious competitions.”
