Wright leads new team to victory

A NEW pool team representing Warrington has made a strong start to the North West Inter-League season.

The crack side, made up of players from clubs playing in the resurgent Warrington Pool League, gained its second win from three outings on Sunday.

Captain Robbie Wright led the team to a 13-5 victory at Eccles in the bid to finish top of the regional league and earn a place in the national finals in Great Yarmouth next year.

The Warrington town includes 17-year-old Gary Frederick, a recent Junior National Tour winner, Andy Cooper, the 2012 Warrington Individual Champion, Dave Roblin, the 2012 English National Blackball Pool Champion as well as Warrington’s most experienced and decorated player over the years, Gareth Owen.

Roblin said: “All members of the team put in confident displays which created an excellent team spirit and atmosphere and left Eccles with no answer to Warrington’s performance.”

Warrington’s next league fixture is at home to Stockport on June 24, although they have a friendly match against Atherton and Tyldesley at home on May 27.

Anyone wishing to support the town’s pool team in their matches at The Alliance Club, Norman Street, would be made welcome.
