Experience tells for bowls youngsters

NEWCOMERS Mario Gibson and Daniel Campbell nearly produced shock results in their opening matches of the 2012 Grange Valley Junior Bowls League.

Both played well against George Yule and Jack Penketh, just failing to get the better of their experienced opponents.

The match of the day in the newcomers’ league was the second-round clash between Luke Gately and Joe Yule, which Joe won 21-20.

In the advanced league, Scott Brown beat Lois Allen 21-16 and Thomas Chapman 21-18.

Last year’s champion Mike Yule recorded two victories, and there were also wins for Thomas Maher, Jack Harper, Mike Roberts, Tom Chapman and Louis Allen.

Kyle Chapman and Danny Roberts lead the way in the youth league following victories in both of their opening matches, Danny narrowly getting the better of Daniel Bennett 21-20 in his.

Jack Hallet, Mike Bishop, James Vance and Liam Sullivan also won.
