STRETTON neighbours Richard Roundell and Mike Nash went head to head in the CNC Heads Sports Saloon Championship races as the new season opened at Oulton Park on Saturday.

Nash, driving a 1600cc Peugeot 106, was fractionally faster than Roundell, who was at the wheel of a 2.5 litre V6 Vauxhall Vectra, in qualifying one place ahead for the start of the two main races.

In the first race, Nash withdrew with a gearbox problem on lap two, while Roundell pulled off the track on lap eight due to a puncture.

Roundell finished 21st in race two.

Ian Cameron raced his classic Mini in the Mini Miglia Championship, qualifying in 12th place.

By lap nine of 10, he had progressed to ninth spot.

But mechanical problems caused his retirement one lap short of the flag.
