RISING star Sam Dykes enjoyed a superb international debut when representing England at the Celtic Cup Challenge in Cardiff's national indoor stadium.
The junior 800m specialist, who was appointed England team captain for the event, ran an intelligent race and blew away his competitors in the final 200m to scoop gold in 1min 52.94secs.
It marks the continual rise of the Warrington Athletics Club 18-year-old as he prepares to represent Manchester Crusaders in the McCain City Challenge to be held in Sheffield on Saturday.
Dykes will then rub shoulders with elite performers at the UK World Indoor Athletics Trials in Sheffield on the weekend of February 11/12, which will see him take on Olympic hopefuls and world champions at the televised event.
