FIVE-year-old Kaitlen Williams struck gold at under nines level in the first English Championships for karate students below black-belt grade.

Kaitlen, of Fearnhead, is the daughter of former world championships contender Michelle Hey and she was one of nine competitors in action from Heys Karate Club.

Lucy Brady, Josh Brady, Conor Stigberg, Kira Stacey, Natasha Stacey, Natasha Ryder-Dennis, Levi King and Sam Barker came close to medals in their first major competition.
