YOUNG Warrington fighter Jamie Aramayo was defeated 20-11 by Luke Connors in the Class One 52kg National Schoolboys Final at the Manchester Boxing Centre of Excellence in Gorton on Saturday.
The 12-year-old, whose remarkable battle with talipes or ‘club foot’ forced him to undergo eight operations in order to be able to walk, put in a determined performance against the undefeated Connor but lost to a judges decision.
But it was not all bad news for the Great Sankey High School pupil, who discovered on the same night that he had been selected to represent England in the forthcoming Tri-Nations tournament.
Jamie’s father, Peter Aramayo, said: “Jamie put on a hell of a performance and lost by only a few points in reality.
“Both boys were holding, but Jamie received a public warning so he was deducted two points, which made the score more one sided than it really was.
“But he boxed very well, got the call-up to the England squad and was obviously very pleased.
“Myself and his coach at Phoenix Fire Boxing Club are very proud of him and the experience he got was fantastic.”
