A WARRINGTON Wolves 13-man squad won the All Golds Cup in fine style at the Cheltenham Nines Festival on Saturday.

In the final, Wolves took on Wales Students, coached by former Warrington coach Clive Griffiths, and an electric start saw them record a magnificent 34-10 win to claim the coveted trophy at the Prince of Wales Stadium.

Try scorers in the final were Rhys Evans, Chris Fleming, two, Alex Thompson, James Laithwaite, Jordan Burke and Brooke Broughton, with Gareth O’Brien converting on three occasions.

The young guns were in formidable form all day, making their way to the final with a 24-0 win over Sheffield Eagles and a hard-fought 18-6 win over Exeter University.

The semi-final was a battle of the giants as Wolves stunned Leeds Rhinos to win 20-8.

Tries over the three games came from Rhys Evans, two, Scott Leatherbarrow, Brooke Broughton, Chris Fleming, Craig Harvey, two, O’Brien, Alex Thompson, two, Gavin Williams, Ben Evans and Jordan Burke.

Rhys Evans had further reason to celebrate when he was awarded the William ‘Massa’ Johnston Trophy for player-of-the-tournament.
