WARRINGTON Athletics Club only had four runners in the final round of the Manchester Area Cross Country League due to a clash with the Cheshire Schools Championships.
David Gerrard finished 23rd in the under 15s boys’ race at Wythensahw Park in 19mins 19secs, while Claire Irons was 121st in the senior women’s event in 38mins 52secs.
In the senior men’s race Steve Burthem finished 64th and ninth in the over 45s category in 37mins 9secs, with Oliver Park 70th in 37mins 23secs.
In the overall standings, despite not competing in the final race, the under 13s boys team added the league title to their North of England honours but on this occasion had to share it with Stockport Harriers, who won on the day to equal Warrington’s total in their best four results.
Individually, only two club runners took part in four races to count for the overall standings, with Robert Dykes finishing in 10th place in the under 13s boys while Sophie Bates was ninth in the under 15s girls.
