NINE Warriors of Warrington swimmers reached national finals after competing at the ASA National Age Group Championships in Sheffield Six of the swimmers were competing at the championships for the first time and although no medals were claimed, a superb top-10 finish was secured by the club.
One of the debutants, Bethany Young, achieved an eighth-place finish in the final of the 11-year-old girls’ 100m butterfly and ninth in the 200m butterfly.
She also finished ninth in the gruelling 1500m freestyle event and 17th in the overall competition.
Newcomers Adam Ravenscroft and David Richardson also reached two finals.
Ravenscroft finished sixth in the 12-year-old boys’ 100m breaststroke and ninth in the 200m breaststroke, while Richardson came ninth in the 11-year-old boys’ 400m freestyle and 10th in the 200m backstroke.
Richardson also finished 14th in the overall competition.
Kathleen Dawson reached the final of the 11-year-old girls’ 400m freestyle, finishing ninth, and she also finished ninth in the 800m freestyle to come 15th overall.
Ashleigh Wrench completed the 11-year-old-girls’ finalists with a ninth place in the 200m breaststroke event.
The boys’ 100m freestyle events saw the final newcomer, James Ross, finish ninth in the 11-year-old division and Jordan Barlow finish 10th in the 14-year-old category.
Not to be outdone by his younger brother, 13-year-old Michael Ross reached both backstroke finals, finishing seventh in the 100m and 10th in the 200m.
Andrew McLay finished sixth in the final of the 12-year-old boys’ 200m breaststroke.
The swimming continues this week when Warriors Youth swimmers have six days of competition.
