A SENSE of unfinished business convinced Vinnie Anderson to commit his immediate future to Warrington Wolves.
The former New Zealand Test star signed a one-year extension to his current deal last week - to keep him at the club until 2010 - feeling he still has much to prove.
Despite receiving several other offers, Anderson wanted to follow the lead of his brother Louis by playing his part in boss Tony Smith’s Warrington revolution.
The 30-year-old back-rower sees boundless potential in the current squad and is confident success will soon return to the club.
He said: “There were a number of reasons why I decided to stay.
“I feel like if I left now it would be on a bit of a sour note because I’ve still not achieved anything here.
“We’re starting to come right, there’s good times round the corner and I want to be part of that.
“I did receive offers from elsewhere but I’m very happy to be here. The team’s going well and my brother’s here so there were a lot of reasons to stay.”
Anderson is relishing the chance to take on former club St Helens on Saturday.
But past allegiances will mean nothing to the big Kiwi and he will certainly not be out to prove any kind of point.
Instead it is the chance for Wolves to test themselves against what Anderson considers to be the benchmark for Super League success that has him eagerly anticipating the clash.
Warrington have won 10 of their last 12 games to become one of the competition’s form sides and the visit of Saints could prove a useful indicator on just how far they have come.
“Just because I used to play for them, it doesn’t add anything extra to the game,” said Anderson.
“But because they’re the top team in the competition, that’s what gives this game a bit more edge.
“That’s where we want to head, where we want to be, so it’s a good gauge to see where we’re at.
“I believe our team’s capable of great things. There’s a lot of potential here and if we continue to improve and play as well as we can this weekend, I’m sure we’ll get the win.”
