ST MONICAS Catholic Primary School made a splash at the English Schools Swimming Association Championships in Sheffield.
Not only did the Appleton school pupils put the town on the map as the only Warrington school represented at the prestigious event, but the team also scooped silver medals against stiff competition.
“I felt like we had just won the Olympics,” said team co-ordinator Fiona Dean.
The team, made up of Fiona Healey and James Ross, both year six, plus year five pair Adam Poole and Catherine Ross, were placed second in the freestyle final and fourth in the medley.
As well as being the only Warrington school to enter the competition in its 60th year - St Monicas was the only state school participating at the heats.
There they swam against children from private schools – some with a long history of sporting success – but the fab four were not put off.
Head teacher Angela Williams said: “We are very proud.”
