BRIAN Carney’s first run out for Warrington Wolves ended in defeat.

The former Wigan and Great Britain winger completed 80 minutes on his return to rugby league from rugby union in the Reserves’ 36-22 home defeat to Hull on Saturday.

Hooker Alex Thompson bagged two tries for Warrington, who are away to Celtic Crusaders on Saturday at 2.30pm, while Tyrone McCarthy and Steven Taylor also touched down. Harvey kicked three conversions.

Wolves’ academy team had no such problems dismissing Hull’s challenge, also at Wilderspool Stadium on Saturday.

Ryan Shaw crossed twice in the 46-4 victory, with Rhys Evans, Vinnie Kakopa, Gareth O’Brien, Liam Hulme, Greg Hamilton and Samir Tahouri also getting over the whitewash.

The win should keep up confidence for Saturday’s clash with Widnes Vikings at Wilderspool, kick off 2.30pm.
