FOUR Warrington Warriors swimmers broke records on the first weekend of the Liverpool and District Swimming and Water Polo Association Championships at Everton Park Sports Centre.

Tim Almond set the scene by breaking the 16-year-old boys’ 200m breaststroke record, which had been held since 1993 by a previous Warriors swimmer, Stephen Dew.

Jordan Barlow, aged 13, defeated now Olympic swimmer Michael Rock’s record in the 100m butterfly which was set in 2000.

That was also Jordan’s national qualifying time, his fourth of the season.

Aisha Thornton, aged 17, also brushed off an old Warrior record which had been held since 1994 by Nicola Crosbie.

Andrew Mclay, aged 12, broke the boys’ 400m individual medley record, while Bethany Young, aged 11, broke the girls’ 200m butterfly record.

Between them, Warriors swimmers won 31 gold, 29 silver and 21 bronze medals.

Swimmers in positions fourth to eighth were also awarded commemorative pendants.

Trophies were awarded to overall winners, with Aisha Thornton receiving trophies for 100m freestyle, 200m individual medley and 200m butterfly.

Tim Almond was awarded a trophy for 200m breaststroke and 200m freestyle.

Rebecca Pye, aged 14, won the overall trophy for 200m backstroke.

Warriors’ swimmers will be competing in the second half of the championships this weekend.

Winners from this meet are then chosen to represent the association in an inter-association gala later in the year.
