Warriors of Warrington haul in the medals

WARRIORS of Warrington won the top club award at the City of Bradford Christmas Meet at the weekend.

Swimmers achieved 26 individual first placings, 25 second placings and 10 third placings to contribute to the final position.

In the team events, the girls’ 13/14 medley team finished in first place and the women’s open-age team finished second.

In the senior category, Tim Almond was crowned top boy, as was Jordan Barlow in the junior section of the event.

Top senior girl was Aisha Thornton, who came equal first with Katrina Alder from Salford Swimming Club.

In the junior section Rebecca Pye was crowned top girl, with Aimee Harvey coming a close second, and Caitlin McNicholas was third.

The event yielded personal best times for many of the Warriors swimmers.

Ten-year-old Oliver Houghton swam his first ASA national qualifying time in the 200m butterfly.

Pye swam her qualifying time in the 200m backstroke and Thornton achieved hers in the 50m freestyle.

One of the most exciting events of the meet was the 50m skins, where competitors swam five rounds with the slowest swimmer in each round being eliminated.

Warriors’ swimmers demonstrated their strength and stamina in those events.

Barlow was victorious in both the 50m freestyle and 50m medley junior skins event, while Harvey won both races in the junior girls.

A close second in the junior event was Pye.

In the senior event Almond finished second in the medley skins and third in the freestyle. Aisha won the 50m freestyle skins and came second in the medley event.
