PACK ace Tommy Martyn made two appearances in the World Cup during his Warrington career.

He was in the back row as England opened their 1975 campaign with a 20-2 success against France at Headingley.

And he did his best to inspire a lacklustre England side when he came off the bench to score a try in a shock 12-7 defeat to Wales at Lang Park in Brisbane, Australia, in the southern hemisphere leg of the competition.

The outstanding ball player, who mastered the art of turning in the tackle and offloading, joined Warrington from his hometown club Leigh in 1975 and appeared in the Challenge Cup Final defeat to Widnes of that year.

Martyn, the father of the former St Helens half back opf the same name, touched down 51 times in 219 appearances over seven seasons in the primrose and blue jersey.

His try against Wigan, straight from a kick-off, in the Lancashire Cup Final win at Knowsley Road in the 1980/81 season will never be forgotten.
