DEREK Noonan was right centre to Salford’s Keith Fielding, who scored two tries, as England opened their 1975 World Championship campaign with a 20-2 defeat of France at Headingley.
Noonan also figured in Alex Murphy’s England side that lost 12-7 to Wales in Brisbane in the southern hemisphere leg of the tournament before losing his place to John Walsh and Eric Hughes.

The rugby union convert, joining The Wire for the 1971/72 campaign, amassed 140 games in five seasons for Warrington with the highlight being his selection for each of the finals in the 1973/74 campaign as Warrington lifted the Captain Morgan Trophy, the Players No6 Trophy, the Challenge Cup and the Club Championship.
Noonan scored the winning try in the Club Championship Final success against his hometown club St Helens, whom he joined in 1975/76.
