WARRIORS of Warrington were comfortable winners in the final of the Bolton and District Mini League competition at Broughton Pool in Salford.

They clinched victory in the event for the second time in three years, fending off competition from Bolton, Worsley, Horwich, Swinton and Pioneer 79.

Warriors' total of 152 points was 13 points clear of their nearest rivals.

Leading the way for Warriors were Bethany Young and Oliver Houghton with two individual wins each.

Those successes came in the 10-year-old girls' freestyle and butterfly events and the 11-year-old boys' backstroke and butterfly events.

Further individual wins came from were Toni Porrino in the 11-year-old girls' backstroke, Kathleen Dawson in the 11-year-old girls' freestyle, and Hannah Murphy in the 10-year-old girls' backstroke.

The nine-year-old boys' medley relay team of Nathaniel Bellamy, Thomas Pye, Hugh Takemoto and Stanley Mainwaring also finished first in their race.

Warriors also recorded 17 second-place finishes with all the swimmers contributing vital points at key stages of the gala.

The nine-year-old girls' team consisted of Siobhan Harrison, Annabel Ainscough, Jessica Bell, Amy Callaghan and Alicia Pierce in the freestyle and medley relays, while the 10-year-old boys' category had representation from Thomas Sutton, Bradley Harrison and Aaron Hill.

In 11-year-olds' events were Ashleigh Wrench and Tim Mainwaring, while Katherine Callaghan, Hannah Wallace and team captains Aimee Harvey and Ewan Miller competed in 12-year-olds' races.

Warriors also shone at the Wirral Metro open meet at the weekend, winning 20 gold medals, 13 silvers and 10 bronzes along with several meet records.

Many of the Warriors swimmers achieved personal best times and were multiple medallists.

Tim Almond, Aisha Thornton and Andrew Mclay are now awaiting the publication of the national qualifying times as some of their swims in the event should have achieved the qualifying standards, which would allow entry into the National Age Group and Youth Championships next summer.
