PHIL Archer tackles St Andrews today, Thursday, having pulled one of his best performances of the season out of the bag at The Belfry at the weekend.
The Birchwood Golf Club professional was slipping dangerously close to losing a grip of his European Tour card after a poor spell of form left him ranked 112 going into the Quinn Insurance British Masters at the weekend.
But rounds of 73, 68, 77 and 69 for a one-under-par total handed him his third best finish and pay day of the year as he sealed 20th spot in the West Midlands.
It was the first time since the Italian Open in Milan in May that the 26-year-old left a course under par, benefiting to the tune of more than 25,000 euros in prize money.
Archer goes into action in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews in Fife today with a ranking of 109.
