PENKETH’S Gemma Prescott is not the only one excited about her debut at the Paralympic Games.
The 24-year-old former Great Sankey High School pupil, who departed for the British holding camp in Macau at the weekend and moves on to Beijing on Sunday, will compete in the discus and the shot put in the famous ‘Bird’s Nest’ stadium.
Prescott admits that it feels ‘surreal’ that she is about to take part in the Paralympics and she will have support from her equally excited parents, who are heading out to China to watch her perform.
“My mum and dad are going out there with me,” said Prescott, who has cerebral palsy and qualified in the F32 wheelchair category.
“They’re really excited too and I think my mum has already told half of Warrington that I’m going!”
