FUTURE Olympic hope Andrew Brown has been producing competitive performances in a transitional year.
The Appleton 16-year-old sailor was crowned world champion and runner-up in successive topper dinghy campaigns but is now learning the ropes in the higher laser class.
A tough five-week period that included week-long racing in Belgium and France has ended, with Brown now looking ahead to the autumn’s three qualifier events that should lead to him sailing in next year’s international regattas.
Brown’s five-week schedule started in the Laser Radial Men’s Europeans in Belgium in July, with the Budworth Sailing Club member finishing mid-fleet.
He then moved on to the Youth Europeans in Brittany.
Brown, who finished 47th overall out of 190 competitors from 30 different countries, finished eighth in his under 17s age group.
The third and final event of the demanding period saw him finish 21st out of 155 boats in the UK National Championships.
