TALENTED Warringtonians Tim Almond and Jake Shaw will get a taste of the Olympic experience when they compete in the prestigious UK School Games this week.
The event, which is being held in and around Bristol, brings together nine sports in a similar format to the Olympics to give young 2012 hopefuls the chance to gain vital experience.
Almond, who competes for Warriors of Warrington and attends Padgate High School, is the national 200m breaststroke champion in the 15 to 16-year-old age group and is part of Great Britain’s London 2012 Olympic programme.
He will represent the north of England in the swimming venue - the Somerset town of Street - in the 200m breaststroke tomorrow, Friday, before competing in the 100m breaststroke on Saturday.
Shaw ended his final year at junior level as the north west’s number one ranked table tennis player.
The 17-year-old from Birchwood, who competes for Culcheth in the Warrington Table Tennis League and has been studying at Priestley College, will represent the north west in the group stage at the University of Bath tomorrow.
