GREAT Sankey High School will be aiming to complete a national double when their year 10 boys’ rugby league team take on Airedale High School in the final of the Champion Schools tournament tomorrow, Friday.
Great Sankey won the year 11 section of the national competition in April and both sides also clinched North West Counties Cup glory at the start of 2008.
The year 10 team will face Airedale, of Wakefield, in the final at RAF Uxbridge in London.
The finals are traditionally played on the day before the Challenge Cup Final but Great Sankey have had a four-month wait since victory over Welsh school Brynteg in the semi finals.
Great Sankey’s team is captained by Marcus Baines and also includes England under 15s international brothers Rhys and Ben Evans, who moved to the town from south Wales last year to join Warrington Wolves’ scholarship scheme.
Victory would make the side the third from Warrington to achieve national success this year, with Cardinal Newman High School winning the year 11 girls’ section of the Champion Schools tournament in April.
